Where We Started

Simpson & Deardorff was formed in 1992 when Art Simpson was joined by Stu Deardorff as in-house litigation counsel for Heritage Insurance Company, a local regional insurer. Art and Stu litigated cases for Heritage, which became Acuity, A Mutual Insurance Company, until 1999. At that time, Acuity decided to end its in-house litigation department. They were pleased with the work of Art and Stu and the strong relationship they had so they encouraged them to set up an independent law firm. Simpson & Deardorff, S.C. was established on January 1, 2000 as an insurance defense litigation firm.

Independent Firm

Since becoming an independent firm in 2000, Simpson & Deardorff, S.C. has grown, while still maintaining its small firm’s dedication to client relationships and providing cost effective, efficient legal representation for individuals, businesses and insurance companies. S&D has grown over the years to a law firm with 11 attorneys with supporting paralegals, and legal and administrative assistants. S&D’s offices are in the vibrant 3rd Ward area of downtown Milwaukee, but it represents clients throughout all of Wisconsin.

Simpson & Deardorff, S.C. has also grown in terms of clients and practice areas. Starting with one regional insurance client in 2000, S&D now represents numerous national and regional insurance companies in all aspects of insurance defense litigation, including personal injury, property damage, insurance coverage, bad faith, and workers compensation. S&D has also developed an expertise in trucking litigation and proudly represents local, regional, and international trucking, shipping, and package delivery companies in Wisconsin. After thirty years, Simpson & Deardorff continues to build its reputation and client base on the same foundations: building lasting relationships; providing aggressive, effective, and efficient legal representation to the insurance industry; and strong commitment to the S&D family of clients, attorneys, and staff.
